MC: Andrew Ngeow Pharmacist-administered depot buprenorphine introduces an exciting role to increase access to those patients receiving opioid pharmacotherapy (2022 National Opioid Pharmacotherapy Statistics Annual Data (NOPSAD) collection). Data is showing this is fast becoming the preferred method of administration for opioid replacement therapy. Research has shown that among regular opioid users in Australia, long-acting buprenorphine is considered a good treatment option by those who want to avoid stigma associated with regular attendance at clinics and pharmacies, and those who want more time to pursue other activities.

Biography

John Jones is a pharmacist who is passionate about delivering patient focused services. He is the owner of My Community Pharmacy Shortland, which offers integrated healthcare including infant health, podiatry, nutrition, diabetes, nursing and allied health services, as well as a buprenorphine depot injection clinic, opioid treatment program and medication compounding service. John’s pharmacy’s primary purpose is to be an integral part of the healthcare team and to work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to improve the health of the community. John holds a Master of Pharmacy, Master of Business Administration, Nutrition and Dietetics along with a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education.

Biography

Natalie Willis began practicing as a pharmacist in 1996 and in 1999 entered into a pharmacy partnership. That same year she was elected to the Pharmacy Guild’s Western Australia Branch Committee where, as the current Senior Vice-President, she is focussed on advocating for a larger role for community pharmacy in the primary healthcare landscape. Natalie is currently in her second term as a Guild National Councillor where she serves as a member of the Health Economics and Policy Committee and Clinical Governance Committee, as well as the Chair of the Policy and Regulation Sub-Committee. She has been involved in ongoing discussions with Government on 60 day dispensing and will form part of the Guild’s negotiating committee for the 8CPA.
