This workshop will give pharmacists an update on Full Scope of Practice across Australia and insights into the North Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot. 2.00pm - 2.20pm – International snapshot 2.20pm – 2.35pm – Update from states and territories excluding NSW and QLD 2.35pm – 3.05pm – NSW Scope of Practice trial update 3.05pm – 3.25pm – North QLD Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot update 3.25pm – 3.50pm – Afternoon Tea 3.50pm – 4.20pm – A practical guide: How will patients know about full scope services? Three working examples will be presented. 4.20pm – 4.40pm – How is patients’ engagement recorded? Biography

Catherine Bronger is well-known in the community pharmacy industry as a passionate advocate for the profession in which she grew up, as the daughter of two community pharmacists in southwest Sydney. Catherine's pharmacies have always pushed the boundaries of mainstream pharmacy with the pioneering of Sleep Apnoea Clinics, Compounding Laboratories, Health Food Stores and Diabetes Clinics. Catherine spends her time growing her workforce of over 200-plus employees and advocating for community pharmacies as Senior Vice President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia (NSW). As Chair of the NSW Scope of Practice Subcommittee, she is keen to soon undertake the change she has been seeking.

Full Scope of Practice Trial Workshop

Biography

Dr Sarah Dineen-Griffin is a full-time teaching and research academic in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy at the University of Newcastle. A registered pharmacist, Sarah’s expertise lies in community pharmacy consultation services, minor ailments, self-care and optimising scope of practice as part of primary health care. Sarah has led national and international pharmacy research projects and published extensively. She was Chief Investigator on the first trial of an innovative community pharmacy Minor Ailments Scheme and is leading two high profile research grants which involve the implementation and evaluation of the state-wide roll out of expanded scope of practice for pharmacists in New South Wales. Internationally, Sarah has been elected to the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s Community Pharmacy executive committee and is an editorial board member for two international pharmacy journals. In 2022, Sarah was awarded an International Excellence Award for Women in Science in Education from FIP.

Biography

Zoe Girdis has been a Pharmacist Prescriber in the UK since 2006. Prior to this, she was instrumental in developing the model of integrating pharmacists into general practice and since then has lead clinics as a prescriber in cardiovascular disease, multimorbidity/polypharmacy and multidisciplinary care home reviews. Zoe’s clinical and strategic leadership skills provide support and innovative ideas to PCNs, Integrated Care Boards and academic health science networks including education sessions for clinical staff, review of systems and processes (including repeat prescribing) and quality and outcomes framework. Zoe has worked in three different countries as a Community Pharmacist and Clinical Specialist and has just been awarded a Fellowship by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. She is currently the Practice, Policy and Regulations Director at The Pharmacy Guild of Australia.

Biography

Sara Kemp is the Senior Manager - Full Scope Project for The Pharmacy Guild of Australia's Queensland Branch. A former Canadian pharmacist with over 25 years of experience in community pharmacy, 20 years of which were in pharmacy operations, professional services and business development, Sara has also worked in the areas of medical information and marketing and has practiced across a wide range of pharmacy settings including independent, franchise and big box pharmacies. During her time as President of the College of Pharmacists in the province of New Brunswick in Canada, Sara experienced the updating of the Pharmacy Act to incorporate pharmacist prescribing and injection services as well as technician licensing. Sara believes the evolution of pharmacy practice to a much more patient-centric care model is long overdue in Australia and is excited to be able to continue advocating for the right patient care at the right time and right place.
